Sorry for your loss jinisner
I think you added too many chemicals in the tank within a short period of time and that caused stress to your fish and it died eventually. Arowana is a hardy fish.
For water changes for a fish that small, you should change 20-30% water every 2-3 weeks.
Before having the arowana in the tank, the tank needs to be properly cycled - ammonia 0% and pH value stable and suitable for the arowana. Having beneficial bacteria in the tank is important too. Its been quite some time since I kept arowana (almost 12 years) but before I put my RTG into my 4ft tank, I had the tank cycled for almost a month. I got blood parrots to live in the tank during that period for almost a month. I checked my ammonia and pH levels regularly during this period and was confident that the water parameters were suitable for my RTG. When I was confident, I removed all the blood parrots and put my RTG into the tank.
I did water changes for my arowana every 2-3 weeks around 20%-30%. What I did was to fill a pail with water and put the anti-chlorine into the pail and leave it for 24 hours before doing the water change for my arowana.
I hope you will reconsider getting a second arowana and be more watchful of your water parameters. And as for medication, you need to be very careful of what you put into your tank because medication contains chemicals that can affect your water parameters. I cannot stress that not only are ammonia levels important, pH values are equally important as well.
>Thanks, i have empties the tank now and will let it dry for a few days then i will recycle it empty and check for water parameters and then add a new fish, this time slightly bigger as small arowana seems very sensitive to any minor change ..

>I would suggest you fill up pails of water and add anti-chlorine to the water and wait 24 hours before putting the water into your tank. After that, get some cheap fish for the tank and let it cycle for 3 weeks to build up the beneficial bacteria for the tank. After which, you can buy your arowana for the tank. Please be mindful silvers can grow very fast especially lengthwise so be prepared that you will need to invest in a big tank in future.
>This is what i will do this time --
1)Set up the tank and add a few pieces of fish food in it to start the cycle , so after it rots it produces ammonia , better then adding live fishes i guess
2)After a few days there might be a smell indicating ammonia spike
3) I will wait more and let the smell go away ..
4)Then i will wait for 2 weeks more
5)then i will add the fish ...
Am i right , will this work , if i let it cycle for 5 weeks, as i think ammonia spike was the reason, also i will add some more stuff in tank on which bacteria will grow ...

>My condolences, learn from mistake.
Yes, get another bigger one before buying a new aro
you can use your test kit to test the water.
>Its sad news, but do take it as a painful lesson learned.
As Bros here have suggested, you must take care of the water 1st. The size of your tank is important too.
Fish keeping should be enjoyable, not stressful to both you and the fish. Do read more on fish keeping before starting it again
>Its part of learning. Cheers bro. Fortunately, there r many shifu here to advise u

Hi,
Do not let you tank dry up.
Just fill water inside and maybe put in air pump to cycle the water first and then buy some cheap fishes to add in.
What is the size of your tank?

Bro itsallfixed, care to explain why needs to fill up pails of water separately? Isnt it ok to fill water straight into the tank and add anti-chlorine since there is already no fish in the tank?
